In 1973, Hollywood Racks was established with the production of trunk-mounted racks in a bike shop located in Hollywood, California. The primary goal was to create high-quality products that were user-friendly and came fully assembled. Quickly gaining a favorable reputation, the racks were then distributed to various bike shops across California. By the late 1970s, Hollywood Racks expanded its market to include partnerships with esteemed bicycle companies like Schwinn, Peugeot, and Nashik.

In 1981, the decision was made to close the bike shop and dedicate efforts to producing car racks exclusively. This transition led to the opening of a small factory in Los Angeles, CA, which was later relocated to a larger facility in 1988. The following year, Hollywood Racks began exporting products to Europe, and during the 1990s, the product line expanded to include racks for trailer hitches, pickup trucks, and spare tires. Presently, the company has relocated its offices, research and development, and the US warehouse to its current facility in the Los Angeles area, with manufacturing taking place in Taiwan. Hollywood Racks products are now available in all 50 states and in over 25 countries worldwide.

The heavy-duty platform-style rack offered by Hollywood Racks can be easily converted from holding two bicycles to four bicycles. Designed to mount on a 2-inch hitch, the rack folds flat against the back of a vehicle when not in use. Equipped with padded universal top clamps and adjustable wheel holders, the rack ensures the secure transport of bicycles. Velcro wheel straps provide additional security, and to prevent sway, the hitch system features a "no-wobble/no-tools" mechanism, including a locking pin and 9-foot security cable. Additionally, the rack includes a keyed alike locking hitch pin with an 8-foot security cable to prevent sway, along with locking frame hooks for added security. The patented "No Wobble-No Tools" hitch tightening system allows for easy installation, and the rack can be folded flat against the car when not in use or tilted down for access to the cargo door. It is important to note that the rack is not intended for use on trailers, fifth wheels, or towed vehicles due to potential steel fatigue caused by the low-frequency motion of these vehicles.
